Far from the lavish parties and glittering towers of the City of Veils, on the outskirts of Ethonis where the land was still wild and untamed, lived a figure known only as The Spymaster. The Spymaster was a chaotic neutral figure—neither good nor evil—driven by a desire for balance. Where Senoki sought beauty and harmony, the Spymaster sought equilibrium, believing that too much extravagance and idealism would inevitably lead to instability.
The Spymaster ran a vast network of informants known as The Broken Mirrors—a shadowy web that extended into every corner of Ethonis and beyond. Her spies were misfits, outcasts, and those who had no place in Senoki’s glittering world of dreams. The Spymaster collected them, offering sanctuary in her home, the Lair of Shattered Dreams, a labyrinthine fortress hidden deep within the shifting landscapes of Ethonis. Here, she nurtured the talents of those who felt overlooked by Senoki’s grand vision.
While the Spymaster did not oppose the existence of the Passageway, she saw Senoki’s unchecked extravagance as a potential threat. His lavish parties, fine clothes, and grand gestures attracted too much attention, too many powerful factions eager to exploit the Passageway for their own gain. The Spymaster believed in the delicate balance of the multiverse, and she often found herself at odds with Senoki’s more indulgent plans. Still, despite their philosophical differences, she found him slightly endearing, with his boundless energy and unrelenting optimism.
Their relationship was complex. The Spymaster would never directly harm Senoki—she saw him as a necessary force of creativity in the world, even if he was a bit reckless. In fact, she often worked behind the scenes to mitigate the unintended consequences of his grand designs. For every gala he hosted, the Spymaster ensured that information was subtly leaked to prevent a power-hungry noble from exploiting the event. For every lavish monument he commissioned, she quietly orchestrated events to balance the scales, preventing any one faction from gaining too much influence.
